Bölkow
Ludwig Bölkow first worked for Heinkel, and after graduating from the Technical University in Berlin joined Messerschmitt AG, becoming involved in the design of the Me 262 jet aircraft. After WW2 he founded the company that bore his name in 1948, as a German aircraft manufacturer based initially in Stuttgart and later at Ottobrunn. From 1955 onwards the company developed helicopters for Bölkow Entwicklungen KG. In 1968, Bölkow merged with Messerschmitt AG to form Messerschmitt-Bölkow, a combination that created West Germany's largest aircraft company. A year later there was another merger with Blohm + Voss, to form Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm, MBB.
