Antonov
Named after famous designer Oleg Konstantinovich Antonov, this company originated as the Antonov Design Bureau of the USSR. Antonov began his career by designing gliders and became the chief designer of the Moscow Glider Factory. The Design Bureau bearing his name started in 1946 in Leningrad and soon produced the An-2 biplane, which was built in vast numbers. There followed many transport aircraft, up to the An-70. It is now a Ukrainian aircraft manufacturing and services company, specialising in the field of very large aircraft construction. It is a state-owned commercial company with its headquarters in Kiev. Antonov himself died in 1984.
