Bell
The Bell Aircraft Corporation was formed in 1935 by the former leaders of Consolidated Aircraft Corporation when that company moved from Buffalo to San Diego. Robert J. Woods built up a design team to produce fighter aircraft and post-war the XS-1 (later X-1) supersonic research aircraft. Other X-aircraft followed. In 1943 helicopter work began, with models that are still in production. Bell Helicopter Textron became a wholly-owned subsidiary in 1982 and Bell Aerospace ceased aircraft manufacture. Some production is based on Bell Helicopter Canada.
