Convair
Convair (Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft) emerged in 1943, linking Vultee (which incorporated Stinson) with Consolidated, thus having 102,000 employees in 13 divisions. Wartime production by Convair included 21 prototypes, but after the war employment slumped and the Vultee, Stinson and Nashville divisions closed. Work centred at San Diego with the series of Convair-Liners and the gigantic B-36 bomber.In 1947 Convair was acquired by Atlas Corporation, but at the height of the Korean War expansion in 1953, General Dynamics took over.
