1951 North American T-6G/SNJ. Ser.#49-3160.
It was a stroke of luck and meeting a very nice owner that got me this photo. Since 9/11/2001, every airport in America has limited our freedom to photo good a/c by putting up fences EVERYWHERE. So as I was trying to get a shot of this beautiful bird through a chain-link fence, the owner saw me. He opened the door on the public side of the fence and motioned me over. He let me walk through their office onto the tarmac to take all the photos I wanted! He's my new hero! Thanks Mr. Strickland.

The livery of this Texan seems somewhat fanciful.

It is, but it was fairly typical for the Korean War era for the USMC. I built a F4U Corsair in a very similar scheme in my youth that represented a USMC squadron involved in the Korean war. They really liked the blue and the checkerboards.
