Canadair CL-13B Sabre Mk 6 56-1659Photographed at the Schleissheim Air & Space Museum on 2 September 2010.
The North American designed F-86 Sabre was the first American swept-wing jet aircraft, and was the standard fighter of the USAF in the 1950s. The F-86 was not designed as a supersonic aircraft, but nevertheless could break the sound barrier under ideal conditions.
This particular aircraft was first used as of 1957 at the German Air Force testing facility in Manching. It later served with Entwicklungsring Süd, a development consortium, as an escort plane for test flights of the German VJ-101C VTOL aircraft. In 1968 it had to be taken out of service. After a final flight on an “open house” day of the German Air Force Jagdgeschwader 74 (Fighter Squadron 74) in Neuburg, the plane went to the Deutsches Museum in 1971. In 1992 it was restored by Luftwaffenversorgungsregiment 1 (Air Force Supply Regiment 1) in Erding, Germany.
Built under licence by Canadair Ltd.,Montreal, Canada in 1957.
