Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B

Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B, XX901 at RAF Elvington.
XX901 is one of the widest travelled and most used in combat of all the planes at the Museum.
It took part in the Falklands conflict, saw action over Beirut and flew several missions in the 1991 Gulf War.
It is displayed in Gulf War scheme including the "Flying Mermaid" nose art.

Sorry, John, but I thinks this is Buccaneer S.2 XN974, whic was the first production S.2, taking to the air for the first time in 1964. XN974 was initially used for trials at the Royal Aeronautical Establishment at Bedford, before sea trials on HMS Eagle and hot weather trials in the USA. It was eventually taken on charge by the museum in 1991.
Your text refers to the desert pink Buccaneer in the YAM (see my picture #13017).

There's also a desert pink Buccaneer in Cosford.

If there is one at Cosford it must be well hidden - I was there a couple of weeks ago and thought I had photographed everything, but didn't see a Buccaneer!

I photographed it in 2002, so it may have been moved to Hendon since then. They seem to do a lot of that.
