Panavia Tornado GR.1B ZA465 at DuxfordPhotographed on 8 February 2004 in the Imperial War Museum Duxford AirSpace "Superhangar".
C/n 278/BS095/3131.
This aircraft flew with 16 Sqn from Laarbruch before being painted desert pink (and called "Foxy Killer") and finally leaving for the Gulf on 4 January 1991. It was based at Tabuk there under the provisional 16 Sqn.
The Tornado GR1B was a specialised anti-shipping variant of the RAF Tornado GR1. Based in Scotland at RAF Lossiemouth, they replaced the Blackburn Buccaneer in the anti-shipping role, delivering the Sea Eagle anti-ship missile. This version did not have the ability to track shipping with its radar and relied on the missile's seeker for target acquisition.
