C/n 27490, marked as a Curtiss P-40E 'Aleutian Tiger' of the USAAF's 11th squadron, 343rd Fighter Group, based in the Aleutians during 1942/3. It is airworthy and based at Duxford where it forms part of the TFC's collection of historic aircraft.
Of the 13,738 P-40's produced between 1939 and 1944, 820 were P40E's called "Warhawk" by the Americans and "Kittyhawk MK1A" by the British. This figher had 6 x 0.5" Browning machine guns with 281 rounds per gun and provision for 2 underwing shackles for 100lb bombs along with a centreline 250/500lb bomb or 52 gallon drop tank. Maximum speed was 360mph at 15000ft.
