This multipurpose amphibious aircraft was designed by the Berieva Aviatsionnyi Kompaniya (Beriev Aviation Company), and manufactured by Irkut. The design project manager was Alexander Yavkin. The first Be-200 flight from land was at Irkutsk on 24 September 1998, and from water was in Taganrog on 10 September 1999.
It is marketed as being designed for fire fighting, search and rescue, maritime patrol, cargo and passenger transportation, with a capacity of 12 tonnes (12,000 litres) of water, or up to 72 passengers.
The Be-200ES is a multi-role version fitted out to the requirements of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
