The biggest purely British aircraft ever! This gorgeous example is at RAF Cosford, and really needs to be stood next to to really appreciate its size! Note how small the Tyne engines are in relation to the plane - however they are one of the most powerful turboprops for their size!

Sorry, but the Bristol Brabazon was by far the biggest British aircraft built. I believe that the SARO Princess flying boat would come a close second.

Belfast wingspan: 158 ft 10 in, length: 136 ft 5 in.
Brabazon wingspan: 230 ft, length: 177 ft.
Princess wingspan: 219 ft 6 in, length: 148 ft.

What saw the end of the Belfast was not the C-130, but the shrinking of overseas bases/commitments. The Government assumed that a heavy-lift capability was no longer required. They didn't get it right, did they?
