I used to love these beautiful Propliners coming into Manchester. The Proteus turboprops had a distinctive sound that had me running into the garden whatever the weather! see also picture #989.

Yes, I can identify with that!! When British Eagle had them there was an early morning flight from Renfrew Airport which passed over my house and it was a joy to see and hear it.

i flew in a British Eagles one in 1966 from Heathrow to Hong Kong via Abadan (Iran) and Colombo (Ceylon) - 28 hours in the air! Since then several times in Royal Air Force versions - which had the seats facing backwards!

I remember lodging with my sister in Whitecrook, directly in the flight path of the resentley opened Glasgow Airport(Abbottsinch). I used to love the sound of these plane's coming in , as well as the Vanguard, so distinctive
