Things to Avoid an Hour Before Going to Sleep

October 12, 2019 by Alexa Leave a Comment

Putting yourself to sleep can be quite challenging especially if you had a lot to do during the day. It’s even more difficult when you have busy moments before you sleep. You end up awake for a while and become restless the next day. Try avoiding some things so you feel better before sleeping and finally get the rest you deserve.

Using your mobile devices

You have to stop using your phone or laptop at least two hours before you sleep. You can set your alarm to help you wake up on time, and that’s the last thing you need to do with your phone. The light emitted by the phone sends a signal that it’s still early and not yet time to sleep. It’s the reason why you have a hard time relaxing even if you already feel exhausted.

Doing work-related tasks

If possible, don’t bring anything related to work home. To begin with, you’re not getting paid for doing such tasks. You also have enough time the next day to get things done. You need to better manage your schedule at work if you’re always delayed in finishing the tasks assigned to you. The problem when you work at home is that you miss the time you should enjoy with your family. Worse, you become preoccupied even until your sleep time, making it difficult for you to rest. Always remember that there’s another day for you to do all these tasks.

Drinking caffeinated or carbonated drinks

It’s a no brainer. You already know that these beverages will keep you up at night. Even having too many cups of coffee in the morning could impact your sleep at night. Imagine if you had a drink a few moments before going to sleep. The same is true with alcohol. Yes, some people get knocked out right away by alcohol, but it reduces the quality of sleep. You also feel restless in the morning even if you had enough sleep at night.

Taking a hot bath

To be clear, having a steam bath at night is good. You might even have to invest in steam showers at home. It helps regulate blood flow and makes it easier for you to rest. The problem is when you do it close to bedtime. Hot water brings your body temperature up. As a result, you will find it hard to sleep. Therefore, if you want to sleep well and also take a hot bath, you need to do it at least two hours before sleeping.

Discussing family problems

You usually hear marriage advice about discussing your problems in bed before you sleep so that they no longer exist the next day. Although it’s a good thing to talk about these issues, you can’t do it close to bed time. You will end up thinking about the problem and it becomes harder for you to sleep.

The things you regularly do might adversely impact your sleep quality, so you need to change now.
